As I write this, I've just heard the news, the first confirmed case of Coronavirus has been found in Corpus Christi.
I consider myself a woman who can handle herself. I always do whatever needs to be done, but in the face of this- I can do nothing.
I've kept up with the news this past week and I can honestly say, I haven't been this frightened since 9/11.
I'm old enough to remember how it was THAT day and all that came after. I've been through storms both personal and literal, (hurricane Harvey case in point), and I have never seen this level of fear.
Government buildings, schools (including the one I work at) have been closed indefinitely. My pastor just cancelled church and we're being told on the news to stay in our homes and not leave unless necessary.
Getting into the grocery store has become an hour long ordeal. The frighteningly empty shelves reminding me of how a friend described Russia back in the 80's when she was doing mission work.
I'll be honest, all this has me a little freaked out. I keep reminding myself of who I follow and who I belong too. I'm not afraid of dying. I know where I'm going if I do. If this is my time, so be it.
The first century church had to deal with the very real issue of plague in their daily lives. Their courage in helping the sick and dying, knowing they would likely contract the diseases they were treating, was what drew people to Jesus.
May we all have that level of courage when the enemy is at our door.
Passing the Jewish Community Center, I saw their sign said, "This too Shall Pass."
While not a Biblical reference, I agree with the sentiment. No matter how long this lasts, how bad it becomes, one way or another, this will pass.
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33.
So now that I've sufficiently vented- here's a little something to make you smile-
Now that I am currently unemployed, I foresee myself blogging quite a bit more. I'm also working on a couple of new projects. I'll keep you posted. ;-D
P.S.- The cat's not mine, I just thought it was cute. :)
